The supplemental source is what links the Producthero Platform to your Merchant Center account. Once set up, any optimizations made in the Producthero Platform are automatically sent to your Merchant Center through this connection.
Examples of optimizations you can apply in the Producthero Platform:
Product title optimisations using the Title Optimizer.
Performance-based segmentation labels (Heroes, Sidekicks, Zombies, or Villains) using the Labelizer.
Price benchmark labels (Below, At, Above, or No Benchmark) using the Price Benchmark Tool.
❗If you manage multiple feeds in the Producthero Platform, you need to set up a separate supplemental source for each one. Each feed label and language combination has a unique supplemental source URL, so make sure to retrieve data and configure a supplemental source for every feed separately.
How to set up the supplemental source
Watch our video tutorial or follow the step-by-step guide below.
Step 1: Copy the supplemental source url
In the Producthero Platform, navigate to the ‘Products’ tab and click the “Copy Supplemental Feed” button to retrieve the URL:
❗Make sure to note the feed label and language combination of the supplemental source you copied. You’ll need to enter the same values in Step 3.4.
Step 2: Enable "Advanced Data Source Management" in your Merchant Center account
2.1 Log in to your Merchant Center (merchants.google.com), click the gear icon in the top right corner, and navigate to 'Add-ons'.
2.2 Under the ‘Add-ons’ tab, select ‘Advanced Data Source Management’.
2.3 Click ‘Add’, and once activated, you will see ‘Advanced Data Source Management’ listed under ‘Your Add-ons’ (see image below).
Step 3: Add the Producthero supplemental source URL to your data sources
3.1 After selecting the add-on, click the gear icon in the top right corner, and navigate to 'Data sources'.
3.2 Under ‘Supplemental Sources’ click on ‘Add supplemental product data’.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Make sure that you add the supplemental source under 'Supplemental sources' only. Adding it to the 'Primary sources' can mess up your feeds! Double-check before proceeding.
3.3 Select ‘Add product data from a file’ and paste the Supplemental Source URL that you copied earlier. Ensure that the file is updated daily, we strongly recommend setting the time between 10 and 12 AM Amsterdam time to keep the feed data fresh.
3.4 In the next step, make sure to select the same feed label, language, and primary source that you selected in Step 1.
❗Make sure to select the correct primary source when linking your supplemental source.
3.5 Once everything is set, click ‘Create Data Source’.
3.6 Your Supplemental Source is now integrated with your primary data source, and the Producthero Platform is successfully connected to your Merchant Center account 🎉.
Do you see the following warning in your supplemental source?
This means that the supplemental source does not contain any data yet. Once you start using Producthero tools, data will flow into the Supplemental Source, and the warning will disappear.
Step 4: Check the supplemental source status
In the Producthero Platform, navigate to the ‘Merchants’ tab on the left. There, you can check if the supplemental source has been set up correctly. If you just added it, please allow some time for the status to update.
👉 Have you retrieved your data and set up the supplemental source? Then you can now start using our tools!
How to remove the supplemental source
If you connected a supplemental source to the wrong primary feed, or forgot to connect it at all, you’ll need to remove it and start again.
You can remove it by clicking the trash icon next to the supplemental source in your Merchant Center:
If the system doesn't allow you to delete it, it means there are feed rules still applied to the supplemental source. To fix this:
1. Go to the primary source that the supplemental source is connected to.
2. Under Attribute rules, remove any feed rules that are using the supplemental source.
Once all feed rules have been removed, you should be able to remove the supplemental source.
