In the Google Merchant Center, there are multiple ways of importing data as your primary source with your product data. One of them being an API connection between your ecommerce platform (ie. Shopify or WooCommerce) or a feedmanagement solution (such as Channable).
Google will be sunsetting the Content API as a way to import data in your Merchant Center as from August 18th 2026.
If you are currently still using the Content API in your Merchant Center for importing your data, you need to migrate to the Merchant API V1 before August 18th, as Google will no longer support this feature.
When you use third party software such as Shopify or WooCommerce, please check your account and make sure that you are already using the Merchant API for your import. To do so, please go to your Merchant Center, Settings, Data Sources and check your primary source.
If you see “Merchant API” in the source column, you are already using the Merchant API to import your data:
When the source column shows “Content API”, please check with the platform you are using that they will support the Merchant API before the deadline of August 18th 2026.
If you currently use Channable for your feed management and have established an API connection with your Merchant Center, this is still the Content API, which will work until August 18th. Channable is working on supporting the Merchant API in their platform well before the deadline to align with this change from Google.
If any action is required from your end, Channable will inform you in due time about any steps that need to be taken to ensure your product data will continue to be transferred to the Merchant Center.
Unsure which API version you are using?
If you are already using the Merchant API to transfer your product data and are unsure about the version used, please contact your platform provider (such as WooCommerce or Shopify).
Not using an API connection?
In case you don’t use an API connection to transfer your product data to the Merchant Center, it can still happen that you are informed by Google about the need to migrate to the Merchant API V1.
The reason for this is that Producthero uses the Merchant API beta to show your product and performance data in our platform, but we are currently migrating to the Merchant API V1.
If you aren’t using the Content API or haven’t opted in at Google for the Merchant API beta, and are using an (XML) file upload for your product data, there is no action needed from your end. Producthero will make sure that our platform will support the Merchant API V1 to import your product and performance data into our platform well before the deadline of February 28th.
Flowchart to check your situation
As Producthero is not responsible nor manage your primary source in your Merchant Center, it is up to you to make sure that you are using the correct import method for your productdata.
When anything is still unclear around this, don’t hesitate to contact [email protected] and we are more than happy to check your account and advise you accordingly.
